Absolutely true! In Nova Scotia near Peggy's Cove there is a "Pussy Pause" motel.

  4. Here is a "night shot" of my garage showing my restored Ford neon oval. The sign is double-sided and features 3 colors of neon on porcelain faces. The sign came from Fred Sayre Motor Sales in Ripley, WV. and was given to me by Mr. Sayre many years ago. Sadly, he passed away before he got to see the sign restored and returned to it's former glory.

Hanging in the shop. It's from 1947.

Awesome shot of the Courtesy Chevrolet sign, Ryan. I thought, is there one in Austin? ha

Craig does great work, do you have a pic of the one he did for Olmstead?
BTW, when is the sign lighting party?

Here are some from Portland. One of my favorite signs off of the freeway, "Eat at Waddles" now says "Eat at Hooters". Go figure. Here's a link to some old signs around the country that I got from somewhere around the HAMB.

Neither of these are auto-related, but both are Burbank icons.

This sign is on the side of Alex's Bar in Long Beach. They tore down the 30's/40's building butted up to the bar and this was revealed. Last time I drove by it looked cheesy like it had been repainted.

This is an old surviving sign from Santa Fe Speedway which was located in Hinsdale, IL.The history goes back to 1896, but auto racing began at this track in the mid 1950's. It featured stock cars, midgets and motorcycle races. Saddly, after the 1995 season, the " FE" was black flagged for good. Through the years other attractions such as the TOURNAMENT OF DESTRUCTION and POWER PUFF were featured.

    Great thread so far.

The Penguin drive in in Manitowoc, WI is closed down and for sale. I don't have any pictures of my own but there's good pics of it on this link, also some other cool drive in pics here

This sign hangs outside my shop and although it's not that cool looking, it's my favorite. I've had a lot of people ask me if I'd sell it, kinda makes me scared it might get stolen

I scored this 1951 Oldsmobile dealership banner from a closed-down Olds dealership in Oshkosh, Wi. I need to get it framed, it's been rolled up for years so it won't lay flat. It's a shiney reflective plastic and the letters are fuzzy almost like carpeting.

And under the category of "you've seen them so many times you don't notice anymore" I've got this Dekalb flying corn cob, always thought it was a cool design. Scored two of these big ones at an auction for $8 and an old guy came up to me and said "Why'd you buy those? They're everywhere."

Some of you city guys may not have seen these before. I've got two of them so if someone has duplicates of another old sign and wants to swap I'm in.

Well if you were a street racer in the 50s and 60s in the Md. suburbs of Wash. D.C., you saw this sign a lot! The "Queenstown Mo" was a hot bed of street racing back then. People came from all over to test their mettle. This was mounted on the top of the sign out front. I've heard that there is a guy with pictures of the old Mo. I'd sure love to find one to document this sign. There are still some "Mo rats" around that might find this sign significant. It is to me.:D
