Art & Inspiration Old Signs

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Ryan, Jan 3, 2008.

  1. I have a large neon Mercury dealership sign from the early/mid 50's. I have no idea what it'd be worth but a local antique dealer wants it BAAAAADDDD....

The Fridgidaire sign in Chevygirls post reminded me that I know where a couple of them are laying! But I believe they are larger than that one pictured. Could just be a decieving picture though.

I cannot find a picture anywhere but in the 50's-60's there was a sign across main street in Greenville Tx.(east of Dallas) that read "THE BLACKEST LAND AND THE WHITEST PEOPLE".This was also on a billboard along the interstate.
Can you imagine something like that today?? We have come a long ways.

Although not neon, these two business signs are both funny in their unique placement to each other..

I keep stumbling over these photos on my desktop...

killing time in Des Moines waiting for a flight...[IMG]

a bit further down the street...
and further west...just off 99 in Tulare, CA
    [IMG]
And a few more miles down the 99.... at the Famoso/Woody Road exit.

    a closer look...

I love going to/coming home from drag races... there's so much cool shit out there.

This is an awesome thread guys! I've got a few I think I can add but you're going to have to excuse some of the non HAMB friendly vehicles in them.

This one's In Dalton Georgia. Currently being used as a church.

GREAT thread. Why the hell did we get away from cool neon signs, Drive In's, Diners, Car Dealers the way they used to look, Motels, etc......??? That stuff was so cool. Nothing new can compare.

Those old Firestone signs are great. Here's one in Vancouver, Washington along Hwy 99.
