Has anybody had an older radio "modernized"? I have a '53 F-100 which originally carried a round faced radio tuner in the dash-thus a nice round hole right next to the ash tray. I found an old inoperative tuner (which belongs in that hole) in order to get the face -Bezel, dial, buttons, & knobs. These originally had a remote amplifier located over to the left of the steering column. I'd like to have a compact, electronic tuner/amp attached to my control so that it would all be in the dash. Anybody out there do that?
A friend of mine has done the "conversion" but he's here in SoCal. I think since the introduction of iPods the conversion of a older radio is made pretty much pointless (IMO).
There are a few places that can convert/modernize your old radio face to an FM tuner the will also accept an iPod. Can be found on Google, easy. I considered it for the 35/36 radio head I have for my dash but doesn't make much sense when I'll be running an uncorked, warmed-up 292 Y-Block.
