Looking at the drag cars in motion thread got me thinking. Who has pictures of the old drag car haulers from back in the day? I know most guys flat towed back then and maybe got an open trailer, but some of the big boys had some cool looking trucks. Ivo's glass sided rig comes to mind.
    Let's see em.

It's not a drag car hauler but sure is HAMB friendly, it's Wendell Scott's 1954 Dodge NASCAR racecar hauler... I bought it from the family in 1998. It's now in a museum in Winston-Salem, NC.

This subject has been covered many times on here. But since we are on the subject, this 56 Chevy powered by an inline six 261 engine belongs to my friend James. It only has 14,000 actual miles on it. <center>

This is a old Ford Cab over I bought from Holman & Moody when it went up for sale. This was the hauler used for Fred Lorenzen cars. I got it I believe in 66-68 or close to it. We used it for over 400,000 miles and was a blast too drive.

  9. As a kid I watched all the big-name racers show up at the Woodburn Dragstrip towing their cars in or on trailers. Ed "Ace" McCullough hauled his yellow slingshot on an open trailer with 16" wooden sideboards. Roland Leong had an enclosed trailer, towed behind a Plymouth wagon with fake wood on the sides. No transporters like nowadays.

I know it's not a drag rig but we can't ignore Don Orosco's restored Scarab/Ex-Shelby team hauler from last years GNRS.

  17. Phil Burgess did a great piece on ramp trucks a month or so ago on NHRA.com. I think you can still access it...tons of photos and memories. Great work

Also off the Drag Car topic, But Arctic Cat used this truck to haul the Boss Cat Land Speed Record Snowmobiles around in the late 60's and early 70's.

  22. Buddy has this one. He put it on the road, put a big hand winch on it, and uses it. Came out of Connecticut. Has a couple of old stock car haulers too, one '69 GMC, one about a '50 AD Chevy with a home-made bed and tire rack.

  23. I've got a couple, one isn't finnished the other is later model and may be OT. Please inform me politely, if these are not suitable I'll remove them if necessary.

And next, it wasn't used regularly for race cars but my future hot rod at the time found its way home in it.

So this must be the REAL reason for A/FX cars? So they'd fit on the hauler? Gary

Any chance this could be bought??? :)

I met a guy this weekend that has a pretty neat collection of Holman-Moody stuff. He'd probably be interested in this rig.

  29. Here is my ramp truck, looking for any information on it...I got it out of Baltimore. Was told it was Grumpy Genkins, but can't find any proof of that. Nice truck back in the day. Lots of options.
