I took my Sr dragster down to Shannonville last Saturday. I have been getting feedback ever since. It was just a nice evening so i loaded up and went down. I left the trans in drive and made three passes over the evening. the last with my dragsters headlights on as it was getting dark. It was just a fun way to spend the evening and see some old friends. Even just in Drive it ran pretty good althogh it will go a lot faster if I bump the shift point. I have heard from several friends now how some of the younger crowd saw it and were talking about it. I heard. It is good to see an old guy keeping his hand in. Neat little car. Cant believe it went over 100MPH. Me i just had fun. Ran another FED first pass, Ran a 60s Chevelle second pass. Ran a 33 Willys 3rd pass. (The burger tasted good too!) I am looking forward to the next weekend. 3 runs and a burger works for me. Don How about some pics and tales from other geezer racers?
What cubes is your slant 6? I reckon one of our Aussie 245 "hemi" sixes would go good in your rail. And still get in under the 250 cubes limit. They performed real good in lots of cars running in "street" category here. swifty
Neat dragster. Its good to see older people on the track mixing it up instead of sitting in the stands or doing cacklefests.Sounds like you had fun and thats the best part ...
Well...............I'm and "Ole Geezer" and although my drag car is not totally HAMB friendly it has roots going back to th 1979 Winternationals in Pomona. I got this car to just go out and have fun with, don't need to prove anything to anybody, did that 30 years ago.............................but to be out with other racers, telling old war stories...............eating "Track Food" and being in the staging lanes.............well it doesn't get any better than that. When I head up to the ole "bleach box" and then creep towards the first pair of staging lights, then inch forward towards the second pair.............I still get butterflys in my stomach, that has never changed. I just enjoy being out there with the other guys/ladies who enjoy drag racing like I have all of my life...........................glad to be back! I am putting the graphics back on the car that were there in 1979, and with the exception of Wilsons Ford Parts in Sacramento.................the other two sponsers are still in business. The first picture is at Fremont Drag Strip in late 70's early 80's, the second is just this past month at Redding Drag Strip (Oldest Continiously Run NHRA drag stip in the USofA) and third and fourth are with the repro graphics on the car......................Having fun and preserving a part of drag racing history........................is just cool! Oh, it doesn't hurt to get a timing slip that reads 9.801 @ 133.56 either.
Don thats a great read. Going through the pits at the drags it's cool to see how many older gentlemen are still running. Great to see your having fun still! Lippy
gentlemen? I dont know any gentlemen. We are old farts! Nice pics of the racecar BTW. Glad you still have it. How about the HA/GR guys ? There must be pics of them too. Don

Yes I would love a Aussie Hemi too but you know I am committed at the moment to see what i can wring out of this ol girl. I am figuring I can run some elevens eventually. I might be dreaming but that is what keeps me going! I have a 8 inch converter coming, cutom made for the car and engine. i am really curious to see what difference it makes, no other changes. Car pulls hard when it hits its power band 3500 to 3600 and is still climbing through the traps. 60 footer is the pits, 2.34 average. Always easier to gain going slow than tacking it on at the far end. Cheaper too! It should be under 1.5 at least of 60 footers. Don
