Picked up a pair of BIG headlamps (?) today. They're monsters, about 12 inches high, one housing is rotted at the bottom, but I think it could be patched. They're so big I have no idea what to do with them. anyone recognize them? mack truck? firetruck maybe? not sure on the lens light on the bottom.. I might hang them outside of the garage or something.
These lights were made to be used on a variety of cars during the late teens to mid-1920s era. Packard, Haynes, etc used these big lights with the seperate lights underneath. Usually cars with the smaller lights under the big lens did not have seperate cowl lamps. The lens were made by Bausch and Lomb and chances are the lights themselves were made by another company.
FYI bausch and lomb made photographic lenses. i have some 1800's B and L lenses (there bad ass) just thought i'd put my 2 cents in... have fun.
thanks guys, I knew B&L made optics, so it makes sense. Hopefully I get them cleaned up in the next few weeks.
The little triangle at the top sure does look like the old Hudson logo from the 20's, can you read anything on it?
My thought is mid to late teens Packard, but B-L sold light to several dozen early car companies. There were dozens of car companies who sourced virtually all their parts from suppliers, and assembled vehicles. Most never made it out of the early 20's.
