  1. Ha I'm not sure. Tilley, Tilly, Tillotson? I'm fighting a rust issue in my tank so I've been pulling mine apart about every 600 miles or so to clean out super fine debris that gets through my filters. I keep a gasket set in stock but have I have reused the old ones twice. Just be SUPER gentle with it, you can warp them real easy if you over tighten stuff.
I can't speak on Zeniths as I've never had my hands on one

  2. Hey, you forgot the picture! :)

  3. Definitely needs a 3/8" reach plug (remember I was having a devil of a time finding any references to 7/16" and 1/2" reach 14mm plugs in my old Champion catalog? - makes sense now!)

    Here's what you need to aim for (sorry for the poor quality photo);

Here is a link to a web page that you can plug in the details of the plug you are looking for and it will tell you what plugs are available.

    http://www.sparkplugs.com/Search.aspx?ptn=Spark+Plug

If you plug in : 14mm thread , gasket seat, & 7/16 reach there are 18 plugs listed by 4 manufacturers.

  5. Sweet, that's a great reference...Hitchiker had asked last month about vintage plugs - I was going through a 1940-ish Champion catalog and only saw one or two 7/16 & 1/2" reach plugs listed in 14mm - they were almost all "J" series (3/8" reach). Looks like there's tons more choices today!

  6. wow Feb already, wish this damn Ice Age would stop so I can get out in the roadster! Im In!

  7. I second that, but I dont have a roadster. I have a coupe and truck. Im hoping to have the coupe on the road shortly after the Weather breaks.

  12. Ok guys, question....
I'm running a Don Zigg Vertex Mag on my banger, even though the grub screw and nut holds the unit tight...it rocks back and forwards slightly as if the clearances in the dizzy mount is slightly too large.

I've been thinking this may be the reason for my odd timing issues..

So the question is how tight is your dizzy and does it have some front to back movement?

  15. Ok next question. Just about to swap on 2x new Stromberg 97 and have a jetting and Power Valve question.

It's a B block, Denver Miller OHV conversion, balanced, counter weighted, Brierly cam, vertex mag.
    Running in an A roadster.

Car will be run between 5000-8000 feet, what jet and PV combo would you guys suggest?

    Thanks

  17. I understand that Fontana raceway will be having an Open House this next weekend for the drag strip.

Not sure what days, I am sure that it is posted on the Fontana web site.

The Flat Tail Sprint Car has a Vintage McDowell OHV, the Victoria has a Serr-Miller, and building a Coupe with a McDowell Replica. The Speedster has a Vintage Thomas Flathead.

From the days of the "X class" 4 banger dragsters. McDowell head with Nichols overhead cam attachment, B block with 4" destroked crank and Pontiac straight 8 rods. I got it with the McDowell head but it also ran a Cragar head.

That is a great engine!!!!!! Is the cam drive taken off of the front of the crank?
Does the vertical drive shaft run at crank speed with a bevel gear drive?
Does the can operate the valves directly or are there rocker arms?

Any more pictures? Especially with out the cam cover.

    Thanks for posting that picture.

CDO, that photo is from 1978 when I drug it home from Doc Prudens garage. I took some pics today but the engine is in storage and its hard to get good photos. The vertical shaft runs at crank speed and is driven off the front of the crank by bevel gears. It runs a cup system. At one point it ran in the Merry Men club dragster out of Long Beach (with a Cragar head). If anyone knows any history of this engine please share it with us. Mike
