Mitch Mitchell legendary drummer with The Jimi Hendrex Experience (and one of my all time favorite drummers) died apparently of natural causes his sleep a couple of days ago after a gig in Portland OR. He was 62 years old.

Long before I took up Blues Harmonica (I got into the Blues & Rock simultaneously & can keep them both separate when I play depending on the situation) I was a drummer. And at the time I was coming up, to me, Mitch was the ultimate Apex of rock drumming! Never got to see him live though…

To me Jimi and Mitch together make that very unique original sound! Whenever I see a Hendrix cover band and the drummer isn’t even trying to capture Mitch’s feel… (I mean they don’t have to copy him beat for beat, but at least try to get in that pocket!) It just doesn’t make it for me! Make’s you wonder with one of those guys is hardest to imitate?!

Anyway that’s all I feel like saying on the matter for now…

RIP Mitch, they’re still playin’ your music!

Saw Mitch just a few weeks ago in Albany,NY playing with the
Experience tribute show.My friend and I remarked how Mitch
looked a little out of it at times but he put forth a good effort
and we all had a good time. That was a great show, glad I caught it.

Mitch was also the last one left of the Hendrix Experience...It's a sad moment to see him leave us...RIP Mitch.

The last one of the first line-up… But Billie Cox from the second line-up after Band of Gypsys (& also the bass player of that band, & from Jimi's days in the service) is still with us.

But I hear what you're saying… it's basically the end of a great band!

Heard about this yesterday and was really bummed. Cant say enough about his drumming, which complimented Jimis guitar perfectly. Sucks that he is gone! The Jimi Hendrix Experience has been in rotation on my stereo for many years. Think I'll go throw on "fire" and listen to Mitch light it up. R.I.P.

Oh man, Jimi and Mitch was the sound of 'The Experience'.
What a great drummer with a jazz background.

To me, the british drummers of the 60s have always been the greatest.

listening to some jimi in the car earlier, mitch is a bad ass, he's timeless. i say is because legends dont die, we can hear him anytime we want. going to play some loud tonight while lifting weights, nothing better. god speed, and rest in peace.

  18. Saw the Experience Hendrix show at the Greek theater on Nov. 2nd. Not only was it an outstanding show Mitch was both great and quite funny as a spokesperson.
    Godspeed
