MS had their own version of java. They basically stole it from Sun. Anyhow, it's no longer supported because it was illegal, and a lot of java being used on websites is based on the Sun standard, and doesn't work with older MS style java.

Long boring story short, you should goto microsoft update (if you're using IE, click "tools" at the top, and "windows update"). Follow the bouncing ball. The only thing to be concerned with is "critical updates". It may want you to install a big ass service pack, or IE 6, which isn't a bad idea but takes some time on a dial-up connection. Anyhow, look for patches for "virtual machine" or anything java. Install that crap.

Then, goto Java's website and install that. Should be all good. If it breaks your computer, it wasn't my fault. [IMG]

Ok man, next step. Do you have any adware on there? You have anything like "weatherbug", or "comet cursor" or "bonzi buddy"? Is your "favorite sites" list full of porn sites you didn't add? You might have an assload of adware shit in the machine. Companies make this software to show ads on your computer, but the problem is most of it is writen by teenagers in India... so it's badly writen junk that crashes things.

Goto this site and download Spybot. This program is tits up, it removes all kinds of crap. Install it, run it, see if that helps. You have antivirus software? If so, is the virus definitions up to date? Run it too if you got it. If not, Go get it scanned online. That might find any viruses that could be screwing with things.

    Hope that helps!

I'm running XP, home edition at home. Everything aways updated. Problem I have is the damned computer locks up whenever I go to the ABC news website. It just can't seem to load their friggin bullshit popup ads without locking up. Works fine a work, and at every other website I visit. If I try to go to ABC news I'll always have to do a hard reboot on my machine. Even spybot wouldn't fix this one.

format and reinstall your OS of choice, does the trick everytime for me when I got problems, I don't got any extra software or programs other than windows and norton antivirus so its a quick solution for me [IMG] [IMG]

I keep a copy of my favourites on a floppy and just copy and paste them in and I'm up and running

wait... do you have all three installed? Because having multiple antivirus programs running will absolutely wreck a machine! One AV program sees the other's doings as virus activity... then that one sees that response as virus activity, and they get in a fight. So, only have one on at a time.

It might be that you need to format and reinstall.. sometimes a machine gets so jacked up that's the only solution..

He stole the idea and some of the coding from Xerox, who originally developed it. Which in turn was stolen by bill gates. The whole computer industry was founded by liars and thieves.

What operating system are you using. Don't frag the thing yet, there is still hope.....

Do you happen to be using a browser other than MS internet explorer, something like NetNews maybe. Here's a link to an article I ran across awhile back about Microsoft not supporting other browsers. MSN Errors
