Under construction. Got to get all the glass back in, engine, tranny, interior, new front suspension, brakes, new gas tank etc. Going to sit about 3" lower than stock. Trying to find all the pieces, spent tonight looking for the tailgate latches after putting the cables & retractors back in, still haven't found them. Someday I'm gonna buy a finished car instead of another project.
i wish i had a scanner,....,,arkiehotrods,,my dad had a 56 nomad that looked just like yours except for the wheels for the longest time(80's-mid 90's) ,,and a 57 nomad that was a light metallic blue with slots all around back in the early 70's ...
How about the one from Portland, Ore. Think Russ Meeks built it. Powered by a 427 Ford!!!!!!!!!!!!...............OLDBEET
I've had mine since April of 1995. Picked it up in Sudbury, Canada. It was a no rust California car tha was taken up there in 1975. It still needs a resto but I have some Deuce's that will get my attention first.
This one belongs to a friend of mine, Keith Millage from Hartford, SD. Very sharp car with a stock drivetrain and full air ride shockwave set-up. I think this pic was taken at Americruise '06.
Can a Safari guy get in here?? Same as a Nomad from the glass to the roof, including the doors and the tailgate. They only made about 1/3 as many Poncho's though... Here's my 57 in progress: Since these pictures its been shaved, and it's currently in primer, awaiting 2 tone green/ light green pearl paint. Bumpers are at the chrome shop...
Here's another 57 Safari that I'll have for sale soon-- They only made 1,292 that year and I ended up with two! Check the classifieds page or PM me if your interested...
I have always liked the playbunny coach: sure they cut up a 55 nomad, but the car was only 16 years old in 71 when they did it. I might not have gone with the square front treatment, but I still think this original version is cool. Somewhere along the way, this car has been billetized, it lost the cool blower, and lost the stance with a pro street wheel and tire package, and recieved a rather unfourtunate paint job. My favorite paint job is the one I don't have a picture of, the black version of the mid 80's the red 1971 version is from Andy Southard Jr.'s book Hot Rods and Customs of the 70's the white pic toymont took in spokane the final pic is how it is now, hopefully the guy that bought it at barret jackson brings it back to an older version.
I just love radicals! Here are some pics of Russ Meeks sectioned 56 It had 427 ford power (he must have consulted B.D. Roth about the engine choice) and the original version had 57-8 caddy saber wheels with widened hoops. It is currently being restored, and I can't wait to see it done! pics are from a post rikster did.
I've always loved the Nomad. Can't say as I've seen one around these parts in decades. Since radically customized ones have been shown... just wanted to put up a link to the concept version that GM built. http://www.seriouswheels.com/cars/top-2004-Chevrolet-Nomad-Concept.htm
Holy Cow! Never seen so many '56's ! Sweet! I'll see if I can find a pic of my '55 - Towed my "Bugeye" with it.
Mine is 106,000 original miles from New Mexico. It had one repaint in the 70's. Motor/trans rebuilt/restored. Only thing not original is the WonderBar lookalike radio and kickpanels with JL Audio speakers. I have been thinking of installing some 14X7 Supremes and pinner whitewalls. Notice rear license plate, it's the real deal unrestored.
