  1. I'm ready! I can't wait until we can get it done.
    Soon friends, soon.

  2. Getting ready to finally get things back together. I lightly painted the outer edge of the manifold gaskets where the manifold doesn't touch. I also pre-fitted everything to make sure I have the right gaskets on the correct side. The manifold is slightly different from one side to another. Hopefully my friends can help me get things put back together this week.

    Thanks for all the help and support! IMG_20200502_195614.jpeg IMG_20200502_195626.jpeg IMG_20200503_083053.jpeg IMG_20200503_083031.jpeg IMG_20200503_083044.jpeg

Do the heat riser crossovers have metal blocking plates?

  7. There are no heat passages in the intake manifold. I thought that would work fine. Do I still need to use a plate to block the head? Will the pressure push the intake up? IMG_20200410_141212.jpeg IMG_20200410_141154.jpeg

I think he was concerned that the gasket maternal might not stand up to exhaust heat.

  12. Yes. That could definitely be an issue if my intake had a heat passage and I wanted it blocked.

I'm ok here since the manifold doesn't have a heat passage and is supporting the gasket.

It is a 500 degree plus gasket. Should I also add metal backing plates to help prevent the gasket from burning out?

Am I still missing the point? Please explain what you think I should do in this situation. Thank you!

Guy used to use sheet metal to block the exhaust heat passage before some gaskets came with plates. The metal plates would burn out so they started to use stainless steel.

  14. Yes. I've even heard of using beer cans before. I thought that was just for stock manifolds with the open heat passages. I thought that with an aftermarket manifold (with no heat passages) then the manifold functions as the block off and no further work is needed.

Thank y'all so much for your advice and comments.

you do not need to block anything off. don't add any metal you do not need it

Not to beat a dead horse but I think sdluck's concern was with thick gaskets of what looks like a paper material the exhaust might deteriorate the gasket enough to lead to leak at the port

Take some heavy duty aluminum foil wad it up and tamp it in the cross over port in the head.

  20. Oh Ok. Good news ! Those are a non asbestos rubberized gaskets. They are high heat (500+) and also fuel/oil resistant as well. They more of a multi layer rubber material than anything paper.

  21. My buddy Rob came over and we installed the intake manifold. It fit beautifully! He was really happy with the gaskets and our use of Ultra Black at the China walls and water ports. Here's a couple pics. After many passes we finally got the bolts down to 25 lb/ft of torque. The thermostat housing fit well too. After many passes we got those bolts to 20 lb/ft. We are leaving everything to set up for 24hrs before running. We also used Gaskscinch to fit new valve cover gaskets.

Hopefully we are on a roll. We think Brad is looking out for us upstairs. We almost forgot the thermostat. IMG_20200506_084711.jpeg IMG_20200506_084722.jpeg IMG_20200506_112411.jpeg IMG_20200506_112419.jpeg IMG_20200506_112257.jpeg IMG_20200506_112306.jpeg
