Hey guys I'm a new guy from Williamsburg Va. Just starting my first build. I bought a 1928 Tudor a few years ago and have been driving it around stock ever since. It didn't take long to realize stock isn't for me. I don't have much space to work in an have a garage full of fenders and a banger I have to get rid of but I'm gonna do my best. Any help would be very appreciated. Sent from my SM-G920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That's quite the starting point! Not much rust repair or bodywork in your future! What are the plans? BTW, I see a fully finished garage in the background. Might I suggest, set aside a day or two for cleaning and organizing. Looks like you'd have quite a comfortable shop to work in.
I'm planning on a flathead traditional style build. Nothing unusual for the guys on here. No plans for a chop now. Just finished the F-1 steering box today. Sent from my SM-G920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That's going make a great Highboy! If you want to get rid of the stock parts PM me and let me know, I'd be interested.
I would recommend that you seek out and purchase Vern Tardell's book on building an AV8. The subject vehicle is a Tudor just like yours and it covers every aspect of a traditional AV8 build in great detail. I think you would find it well worth the money for your project, even if only for the trial and error it will eliminate.
Thanks guys. I'll keep you posted on the progress. Hopefully I can get my 12 year old son off the video games and interested in working in the garage with his old man. Sent from my SM-G920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I got the body removed. That was a very sketchy job to do alone with a jack, some wood and a few jack stands. Next time I'll grab a case of Budweiser and call a few of my buddies. I also cut the rear of the frame and stepped it. Sent from my SM-G920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
IMO... get a good straight edge and check for sag... usually at the front motor mount... now is the time... easy fix... later on ?
Awesome! There is so many stock restored “A” s out there fairly cheap, and easy to turn into a traditional Hot Rod Ride! Just don’t tell the old fart you’re buying one from! Tell him its for parades! Lol!
Can you please explain what "sag" you are referring to. Sent from my SM-G920V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
the weight of the body ends at the firewall... the motor mounts end just ahead of that... it is a pressure point and sometimes is rusty behind the MM plate... makes a weak spot. if it is sagged you will go nuts trying to get hood gaps right... I have seen a half dozen boxed frames "cheap"... because they were sagging when boxed and now are for hoodless rods only.... check it... if straight, rock on !

Hey neighbor! I am also in Williamsburg, and just finished up a 4 year build on my 53 Ford. May be able to give you a few pointers from time to time. Also have a 59A Flathead lying around. Welcome to the HAMB.
