Hot Rods New Drag racing DVD's

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by loveoftiki, Jan 21, 2016.

  1. Stopped by Parelsteiners Today hoping for some new reading material....no luck there, but Steve said check out these new drag racing dvd's. It's a 9 disc series starting with drag racing from the beginning, there's 2 match race dvd's, 3 " early drag racing" dvd's, early funny cars, top fuel, and pro stock.....I'm patiently waiting for the family to go to bed to pop these baby's in...

Wow, I thought Gold Dust went out of business 20 some-odd years ago. I have those on VHS!

Volume II has some excellent in-car footage of Strickler banging gears in the hemi. And Match Race Madness has some KILLER footage of Hubert Platt racing the Ramchargers he really gets the car out of shape hitting fourth. Wild footage.

  5. Yeah these are a worthwhile investment if ya love early and I use the term non corporate drag racing...they will be playing at the shop on a regular basis

This footage has been available on DVD for a few years--I have had mine for at least a couple of years. The voice over is not bad but there a few well known cars that get missed and the narrative gets a little repetitive at times.

I had my old VHS tapes converted to DVD a couple of years ago. Lots of great old footage in this set. I think Skip Norman did the voice overs and was adequate but not great. The music isn't bad. Well worth having.

I really love some of the music on the Matchrace Madness video, there is some REALLY obscure mid-sixties soul and R&B on there. And yes, Skip Norman did the voice-overs. They are a little folksy and amateurish, but I have always felt that was a big part of their charm. It feels like sitting down in a buddies living room and watching his old super 8's. I didn't know they were available on DVD, I haven't seen them advertised for years. I bought Matchrace Madness and "Birth of Drga Racing" volumes 1 through 4 back in the eighties, when they were advertised in SS/DI, I have always treasured them. Cool to know that I can replace them with DVD's, as well as fill out the ones I missed the first time around. Thanks for posting this Tiki, you made my day!
