I took my new girlfriend to the Henry Ford Museum where she saw the Goldenrod streamliner. She took a picture, showed her dad and he said “You know your grandpa raced at Bonneville in the 50s, right?” Unfortunately her grandpa (Fred Head) has passed. But lucky for us her grandma kept a scrapbook of her husband’s one and only trip to the salt flats in 1955. We live in mid Michigan, not exactly the Mecca of land speed racing. A belly tanker with an Ardun equipped, injected flathead must’ve been such an exotic piece of machinery around here, I’m dying to know what happened to it? Some pretty famous cars in these shots as well. Enjoy.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Lucky77 I am going to suggest that you watermark those rare one of a kind pictures before copies end up on epay or pinpayterest.

The dark side of the fun we enjoy...I might post these in another thread or find them on the net and save and post but money and greed is not on my agenda...

Great pictures of early Bonneville. I must say trying to get the Ardun to run way back then was no easy task I could only imagine what the ride would be like trying to top the 209 record.

Great shots! And overall they look better than most typical snapshots of the era. It looks like you just photographed them but they still show a lot of detail. If possible you should scan them and they'll look even better.

And as already mentioned you should watermark them with your name and "© 2019". At least the riff-raff might get the idea that these photos aren't "public domain" images.

And of course, thanks for the share!

Good eye there @belair. With this not always a popular thing around here it should give one pause to reflect on the Big Picture.

@slopoke it said in the article that they had 10 Tire failures on the trip to the salt...It looks like they may have been working on a block and tackle to toss onto the A-Frame to perhaps help lift up the truck to aid in repairing it.

They did 153mph in the Belly and low and behold it must have been one of Fred's buddy who piloted it as he himself had trouble fitting in it...

Awesome photos & history, thank you for posting. Looking at the '55 program it was entered under the name Saginaw Hot Rod Shop, Saginaw Michigan.

My favorite part is how they transported that thing on the back of the truck! I don't think cops would let you go down the road like that these days.
