neglecting my shoebox

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by captaintaytay, Nov 2, 2011.

  1. I picked up a '62 Ranchero a little over a month ago and now I feel as if I am a father favoring one of his children. All my time, money, and hard work has been going into it lately while my shoebox sits in the garage alone, crying at me and begging for attention every time I walk past. I think it's time to be a good guy and give my two cars the equal attention that they deserve. Let the project begin again!

    I'm back baby!

Park them next to each other. While you work on one, you'll be looking at the other one.Guilt will decide which one you should work on. Worked for me.

Several years ago I was working on improving my '36, and I had the running boards painted. The next night I opened the door of my shoebox, and it put a big scratch in the '36 board.

They can be jealous bitches. Better be careful.

  11. That's how it works, we don't even realize we are neglecting them until it's too late!

Congratulations on catching it in time!

I understand the pain and joy. Just got my truck started after a year. It is crazy how easy it is to get sidetracked.

  14. haha i love this idea. i'll try it out and let you know the outcome hahaha.

hahahaha this is insane. i better watch out. or take the doors off lol

    thank you!!!

yes, original owner was in Fresno.

im glad other people are with me on this one hahaa

  15. I realize this thread has been negleted, and im going to fix it.
My son has been trying to juggle the Shoebox project and touring with his band.
He just left again for east coast and Canada tour.

So I'm going to take over what he started and get it back on the road.
A little history, Motor was done, body work 90% done. We fixed floors drivers and passenger side and trunk. I need to re-install fuel cell in trunk and have been searching the web and just getting more confused. Just trying to make right previous repairs.

This is not a ground up as time is precious and it (the Shoebox) the body has been molested from PO.

Any input or suggestions on fuel cell install is always appreciated.
    Thanks very much.

sorry about blurry pic's, shaky hands

  16. Has anyone installed one of these fuel cells without having to drill holes in trunk floor?
I guess I'm trying to just keep from sealing bolt holes.

  17. Hard to share quality time with both,,rotation works.:D HRP

Be thankful you got the cash flow for both LoL.....

The Shoebox is my dream car.... Why I love-um I have no idea

  20. The 62 Ranchero and 54 Ford Customline were sold.
The Shoebox is the priority now.
I'm trying to get a bead on installing fuel cell.
    Thanks for the complements.:D

  21. So I'am going to start on fuel cell install this weekend.
On another note I want to get some bullet center caps (push through type).
Diameter center hole is 2 5/8" on 15" stock steel wheels.
So I'm wondering what size will fit my wheels
Does anyone have a suggestion as where to find them?
I read some older threads and still a little confused on size, I keep seeing mostly 3.125".
    I appreciate any help.

I'm waiting for an answer too. Maybe contact Night Prowlers?

  23. Thanks for the tip,
Contacted them and waiting for an answer.
    After the research I've done,
I'am almost certain that some kind of modification will be in order to make caps fit.

  27. Fuel cell??????? Nooooooooooooooooo. no fuel cell.
My trunk floor was 4 times worse than yours and here's what I did.
Found a mid 60s [it was a 67] merc comet or ford fairlane with a good gas tank at U-pull-it. Same tank as a mustang with one exception...the comet/fairlane tank fills from the side instead of the back so if you want to, re-use the original shubox filler with a new tube.
I had to cut the center out of the trunk floor and delete the spare tire well but the tanks make your new trunk floor and they actually bolt to the existing trunk floor around the edges of the tank..very sanitary. The new tank fits right down between the shubox frame rails. Hell, I even wired the sender up to my original 49 gauge and it worked.
An alternative is to buy a brand new mustang tank and open the trunk to fill it. They're cheap and mount thesame as the fairlane/comet tank.
The fuel cell will take up valuable trunk room and you'll still need to fix the trunk floor...plus they scare the shit outta me in case of an accident. I'm not even sure my insurance would pay if I had a fuel cell in the trunk and got rear-ended/fire/bad berries/etc.

  29. I can find them just about anywhere, but a little too pricey for what you get.

The PO I guess, thought headers and straight pipes were the way to go, thus eliminating factory fuel tank to have a straight shot down the middle.
Everything except for trunk lid has been shaved.
I not very fond of having a fuel cell either.
I do appreciate your info and may have to re-think fuel cell debacle.
