At the moment I’m in the process of setting out my build and have run across a problem, as I don’t having a lot of experience I thought I would post on here. I have a 1938 ford panel truck that I’m going to be building with a 1938 ford deluxe front sheet metal. The hood and hood sides fit perfectly , for the fenders I’m going to have replace the lower cowl section with a 38 deluxe repair panel so they fit. Now the problem I have come across is that the front wheels aren’t central to the front fenders and it looks like the front cross member needs to come forward about 5” After looking at many pictures of 38 deluxes and my panel truck I have seen the cowl sides are a lot wider on my panel truck. Any ideas would really help . Thanks
This is my truck, you can see the hood and hood sides are in place but the fenders need to come back about 5” to be in place.
Only thing that I can think of is to replace the front cross member so you can run a spring over axle like earlier cars...model A- 34 Ford. That should center your wheel.
I have a 41 Sedan Delivery. When building it, i found that Sedan Deliveries used Car sheet metal on the front ends and Panels used truck sheet metal (hood, fenders, etc.). While i don't know if this is the source of your problem, It may be worthwhile to investigate.
the panel truck and the sedan are apples and oranges, both fruit but the cowls are totally different, as are the fenders,, the 38 truck would be the 'beer barrel' grill does it fit? and can it fit? are what you are looking at. Your call
It looks to my that they put an cross member on it. Just moved forward the cross member an make sure you alaigment it's correct , also you're cranber and caster. You can wach videos on you tube about "ifs" very helpful.. I building my self one 38 Chevy panel air baged and nocht the back. My advise is that you get as much information before cutting, and measure alot a times....good luck.. Sent from my Moto E (4) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
