Need to get an engine & trans from L.A. to S.F.

(area) in the next couple of weeks. Anyone going that route and if not, can you recommend a trucking company?

It's a complete Cad 390 and related trans. They are separated.

It's a long shot, but give Amtrak a call. See if they will take "larger sized" cargo. They have a Superliner that runs from L.A. to Seattle, and it stops in Oakland/Emeryville along the way. I know for a person it was roughly $80 from the Bay to L.A.

Like I said, it's probably a long shot, but worth a look. Good Luck!
