Need to have my newly rebuilt M22 looked at. Just installed, new Hurst shifter setup, won't go into 4th or find neutral. Seemed okay before I put the new shifter on but after trying to depress the clutch and row it through the gears it hung up going into 4th and now will not find neutral (shifter forks in straight up position and plastic neutral key installed but it is not in neutral, trans output shaft will not turn). I want to have a set of experienced eyes take a look at it. I live in the western suburbs of Philadelphia.
No expert by any means however I just did a friends OT Corvette with a Muncie & Hurst shifter. Disconnect the rods on the box and set the shifter in neutral so that alignment rod seats into the inner hole closet to the transmission to be correct. Set the forks in neutral on the box, insert the bushing and adjust the rods one at a time until the end drops into the hole without binding.. Being a fine thread you need to turn them either clockwise or anticlockwise to line up correctly. Now you can put the circlip in to hold the rod in place. The short vertical shifter plates look the same however there was a slight offset that when installed incorrectly won't allow proper engagement and selection of gears. I found on his car the extra threaded rod beyond the adjuster bushing was too long and fouled on the crossmember so it required slight trimming. Once all this was done remove the adjuster pin and run the transmission through the gears before road testing. Job done. Front lever (Transmission) and outer gate on shifter is 3/4; Centre lever and centre gate is 1/2; and Rear lever and inner gate is reverse. P.S. Forgot to mention to adjust the stops on either side of the shifter. Loosen the jamb nuts off and back the stop bolts off to allow for adjustment at 1&3 and 2&4 positions. Screw bolt in until it contacts and tighten jamb nut. Go to Hurst site and download the PDF instructions for your shifter. http://www.hurst-shifters.com/faq/ http://www.hurst-shifters.com/product-category/?slug=manual-shifters http://www.hurstshiftersonline.com/productcart/pc/viewcontent.asp?idpage=7 http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/97440/
