Just bought a hydraulic press, came with a pump but no motor.

Is there a recommended RPM for a pump motor?

I know most motors are 1750 rpm.

I have a 3 HP motor on hand but it's 3500 rpm didn't know if that would work, if that's to fast, or if it makes any difference.

Pump is pretty good size, it's itallian 2,5 pb if that means anything to anybody.

You will have to match the drive motors rpm to the pump. If the pump calls for a 1750 rpm, then that is what the drive motor needs to spin at. Most small Hp (less than 10) 3 phase industrial motors are rated at 1750 rpm. 2,5 pb refers to the size of the pump an its working pressure (about 3140 psi). Check out this link to what I believe will be your pumps manufacturer.

    Good Luck.
