Ok.. I need some help... I have a 1951 331 Hemi with the extended block. I have removed the bolts from the transmission, bell housing and lower block. I can't tell how to remove the transmission. Anyone done this before??? I am trying to remove the bell housing and transmission so I can get it down to the block for the machine shop..

    Any help is greatly appreciated...

Depending on what you have for a transmission, I would say you probably need to remove the torque converter to flywheel bolts if this is the semi-auto trans with safety clutch.

How do you get to the bolts to remove on the torque converter to the flywheel..

    try this link:

IIRC: u first remove the transmission from the bell housing. There might be a bolt you need to get from inside the bell housing and that might be accessible from the bottom, after removing the torque converter inspection cover. Check out the link and see if that helps. I will look it up in my MM tonight.

There's nuts on the side between the crank flange & the block. A long wrench is recomended.

That is what I was afraid of.... I started with my 5/8 wrench and couldn't get the leverage I need to break those loose. Was afraid I was going to mess up the nuts by rounding off the edges...

Either buy a very long combination wrench, or intertwine two combination wrenches together to get the leverage you need. Also once you have the wrench(s) on there real good, use a hammer and hit the farthest end of the wrench(s) a few time to loosen up. A little pentrating oil on the nuts might help too. BTW: Did you get the transmission off the bell housing? Like I said, I think the trans will come out by itself if it is anything like my 54 Powerflite is. There is a sleeve which connects the transmission shaft to torque converter.

Motors manual, says to get transmission out first, then proceed to clutch/torque converter section.

And it's real fun when you had moisture in a couple cylinders, and you cant turn the crankshaft!!

Took me a couple days on mine!
