So me and the some of my club members (Scoundrels) decided we would take backroads to vegas. Some parts through little towns and some parts route 66. Our adventure was pretty crazy but well worth it, we turned a 4 hour trip into an 8 hour trip. Our first major stop was Roys Cafe in Amboy California.

the '53 was running fantastic at this point, everyone was counting on me to be the first to break down but to this point it was running great.

the mountains just outside of Kelso are amazing

between Kelso and Baker, california, the 53 finally took a crap, we messed with it for a bit and got it back on the road, we still never figured out what was wrong with it lol

we eventually got to vegas and enjoyed the weekend, i didnt take any pics at Viva because i left my camera in the hotel, but im sure theres already enough of those pics. My crew left sunday night and i decided to head home on monday alone, with just the wife. I knew it would be a long trip if the cad broke down especially since i decided to take the back road home alone. but the car made it. Here i am about to hit the long stretch...

got my old lady to take this pic, it was around 2pm and it was probably about 75 degrees outside, with the heat coming through the floor it was probably about 95 in the car, but the sceneray made up for the hot weather.

    Great car -- great photos.

The Mercury and Lincoln are tops, too.

You found a starter for the Lincoln at a local auto parts store? I'm lucky if I can find an auto parts store that stocks auto parts anymore. :D

seeing u under the car w/ the jack and not a jackstands made me cringe.

i've had jacks slip from cars before, and thankfully, without me under them.

Nice pics. Makes us all want to hit the road like that.
I saw your caddy in other Viva pics by the way.

  17. Sweet.

I've been that route myself once or twice.

Roy's cafe isn't the end of the world but you can see it from there.

    Well done.

Dude! I just want to say that your car got me more excited than just about any car at Viva! I've really taken a liking to Cads lately and when I saw yours it just spoke to me for some reason. I can't WAIT to see what you do with this thing and I really even like how it is right now! Great car and great trip! Thanks for sharing the pics! Now share with us what you've got goin' on with this car! Want to know more about it!

    Thanks for coming to Viva!

    Cheers!

dont be fooled, its the angle of the pic, there is definately a jack stand under there, we made sure of that, were a little whacko but not retarded.

Its bagged, and it sits flat on the ground. I use it as a parking brake.

Thanks, the only thing im going to do to it now, is try and save some money for some interior. The drive home made me realize that all the crap getting into my eyes was not tolerable and i would never make a long haul in the car again until i at least wrapped the seats. I plan on leaving the outside of the car the way it is for now. i love what mother nature has done with the car and i beleive it looks great.

thanks for all the wonderful comments. It was a great experience. We took the same road last year and i had my 63 convertible that a buddy of mine drove, and i drove my 53 capri. (those cars are long gone now) I knew i wanted to take photos this year to remember.

Sounds like a great trip in a great car. I think we have the same problem with the seats. every time you sit down it looks like your farting foam peanuts.:D
Wish I could do a trip like that but at 8 mpg it gets real expensive, real fast.:(
Thanks for the pics & story.
