Headed out to Babylon for the weekend with my Dad. We did this trip a few years ago as he was working through details/planning on his roadster (which is just about done now) and figured it was time to do it again. Friday started with a visit to a little museum up in Oxnard that some of you may have seen. Off-topic hawks can relax, as I'll only post these three shots from that part of the trip. Next, we were off to see one of my Dad's old car club buddies who moved from CT out to California 50 years ago. We dropped in out of the blue and had a nice time. They hadn't seen each other in five decades. Bobby still had his cars—in the early '60s, the '34 was was a really nice, metallic green street/show car, which I'll post photos of some day. Then we had just enough time to run out to the Walden Speed Shop open house. (This kid already has life dialed...)
Saturday we just focused on the show. The swap seemed like it was fully twice the size it was the last time we went. It was really interesting going to it this year, without the need to shoot every single '28-on-Deuce-rails roadster for reference. It was way more relaxing. And hot. Really hot. This car was great. Really subtle mods. It was apparently an ex-lakes car. Borderline coolest motor combo I think I saw...Davies manifold, Winfield carbs, Meyer heads, on a V8-60. This is the dash from the full-fendered '32 with the green wheels. In looking through all my photos (I took a lot more than what I posted,) I really think this '27 Roadster was my favorite car at the show. Everything about it was perfect. We even saw it later on the highway, catching air off bridge expansion joints at 75 mph. I'll post a few photos from the Rodeo Drive show later.
Great shots Cris! Missed that '34 with the twin Winfields. Hope to get to see the Oxnard collection next year. Did you se the Type 59 oil ump in the swap meet? So many great cars I couldn't pick a favorite. Bob
They are part of the Schlumpf Reserve Collection, previously owned by the Schlumpf brothers in Mulhouse, France. The cabriolet in the foreground is a Type 40. The one in the background is a Type 40 Break de Chasse (which is like a little woody RPU with a top the encloses the whole thing.)
