Actually it's my first TIG'ing, bead rolling, and riveting project. The roadster we run at B-ville has an OG bomber seat in it that I've always really liked. Now that I'm building my Tudor Sedan I wanted some bomber seats of my own. I definitely couldn't afford to buy a set so I thought I'd make my own. I started out with .080" 5252 aluminum and went to work with a band saw. After that I spent some time putting beads in the side pieces. I welded all the pieces together for strength (I'm kind of, how do you say, beefy...) but I'll go back and add in some angle pieces around the sides that'll be treated to a crap load of 1/8" rivets. I also added four horizontal beads to the seat backs after these pics were taken. Once I get all the rivets in I'll post up some more pics. I also plan on making a bench seat for the back of my Sedan. Nate
Nice bombers! Yes, that IS one ugly dude! I'd like to see them after your rivet party. Thanks for sharing!
Nice job.......this is how it starts...........diving in and making something from nothing.....congrats, Littleman
Ha yeah I actually almost did the entire project on that dolly. I have some pretty bad back problems (I'm a disabled vet) so I needed something that was higher than the work benches that were in the shop to keep from arching over so much. Thanks for the rest of the compliments guys. As far as making more seats, I can see why people charge what they do for the new ones that are available now. A lot of work goes into something like this.
Looks like a great project, cant wait to see all them finished. Might want to wear some long gloves or long sleve shirt (or both) welding on at alum. As you might have noticed already the arc reflects really good on it! Quick way to fake bake your arms!
