    Thanks.

I like white walls but I'm with 1-Shot, the black walls make it sooo much more of a hotrod. I always felt that white walls were used on cars that were more about show (lotsa chrome, shiny paint, ect), racers ran blackwalls since it was just about going faster. Your car with the black paint, laid back windshield looks more like it belongs in the later group.

Me too Brady. I do have them on another set of cream artilleries.
But I have to admit the ride is so much better with the radials. It's crazy the difference.

Can't believe I just found this thread. Your car looks great. You are a lot faster than I am. Still waiting to drive mine in the next month or so, I hope?

Woodhawg you will get there. I did cheat though. Technically its still in the mock up phase. I just rattle canned it. It looks like yours is going to be the finished product when it done.

Really nice ride!!!! I don't like the look of radials on hot rods, but the excelsior are fine. I would go for the black ones for sure. Black bias ply would be my choice.

Ok I did not think far enough ahead... This is what a clutch replacement looks like on this POS.

I've been collecting parts for a 29 roadster build, then started having second thoughts, but just affirmed it after going through your thread. It has just the right stance.
What rear spring did you use?

Roadsir- i'll measure it tomorrow. It was made to match the width of the frame. It started life as a 40 Ford spring. These cars are so much fun. Build it and enjoy the miles and smiles!!

  19. Really like the black tires on it......What went wrong with your clutch? and was it a hyd clutch or manual?

It's a Hyd and 4,000 miles of abuse. I didn't break the first one in properly lol. Your suppose to wait 450-500 to beat it up.

The black wall Excelsior's look really great, much nicer than the whitewalls.

I'm liking the black walls, too. Much more hot rod-like. The balloon wide whites just didn't fit the image...imho.

WOW, looks great. You had to pull motor to replace clutch? Seems strange. I dropped my C4 auto out with motor in car. Maybe different frame arrangement? Enjoy!

If you want better traction with bias plies, pull the SBC and put a banger in...works with my car...no tire spin what-so-ever.

really like your car. good simple choices made. any pics of how you finished the trunk. working on finishing mine right now with tank mounting etc so like seeing how guys completed theirs. I see you have the filler on the body. i have been back and forth on going that route.

Your car came out EXCELLANT! Nice job.

Tires? I put bias ply on my coupe when I first built it to be "Correct"- driving it was like having a wrestling match with a gorilla! Switched to radials ( borrowed a set for "testing") and it drives like a Cadillac! Easy choice.
    Have fun, drive safe.
