I have a 429 Caddy motor that lunched on me a couple days ago. Can anyone recommend a decent rebuilder in minnesota (twin cities area) that won't rape and pillage the wallet? I don't mind paying a fair price for good work, but would like to go to a small independent-type shop, preferably run by, or known by HAMB'ers. Thanks.
Not to scare you off but the 429 can be a fairly expensive thing to fix, and I believe the freeze plugs for the block are no longer produced as the HAMB's Sean found out when working on his brothers 429 (at least I think I got that straight). Also known for block warpage when bored out. I had a 64 Caddy and looked into getting the motor re-done and about choked on what main & rod bearings would cost me (same as a whole GOOD rebuild kit +extras for a SBC) Great motors when runnin' real pig when they are not. Also just a question how do you know it is "dead"? I have heard from first hand experiance of 429's showing no oil pressure due to the relief valve dingus in the oil pump housing getting stuck (they do this as they get old!) Might want to check on the 63/64 Cadillac Community on line if its still around great site for info on these cars & motors.
