so this is how I bought this lump. It came out of Arizona and found it's way into southern Ontario. I bought it from a guy about two hours west of Toronto. He took every nut and bolt apart, gave up, and threw it all in the trailer. It is pretty solid. Only needed floors and a few small patches here and there. Please feel free to offer advice as I go. Bit of a rookie here. Thanks!
blasted and POR15 to seal it up. New bushings and balljoints and Aerostar springs. Thanks to the HAMB for that little idea.
Good to see someone else is as crazy as we are! We started with a complete car though so we know where know where the parts go. Check out our build thread listed below. Be glad to answer questions if we can. Sam
Being a cheap Dutchman, it pains me to pay for something like a rotisserie. A little redneck engineering and it was easy to get at the floors. Patched and undercoated.
So Mike Where are you from? Sam is from East Wenatchee And I have a number of friends in the Wenatchee area. Brian
Looks exactly like the way I took my first Custom Build off of the chassis 38 years ago ( 49 Ford that I still own today!)...the stack of 2x4's fell over as I was dragging the chassis out from under the body and put a dent in my garage door. Brian
It's a bit of a treat to work on a car where the nuts and bolts come apart without a bucket of wd40 and a set of torches!! The winters in this parts of Canada are brutal on metal.
I am not a regular here on the HAMB, just popped in as I am sitting in front of the fire today watching the snow come down outside. I still own a Street Rod Shop with one employee, but am pretty much retired, trying to pursue my two other passions now. Teardrop Trailers and CycleKarts.......both have been life changers for me. Be careful if you are a car guy? take this as a warning before you google image "CycleKarts" They are extremely addictive! Brian
I like it so far! The body "rotisserie" is kinda genius. Taking on a car where everything is already apart is a big job, but good to see it getting tackled. The inner rocker/body mounts on this one look great! If that's good on the car, you know you have a good one. Look forward to seeing more.
yah HRP, pressed in all new rubber bushings and bolted in 4 new balljoints. I bought all new steering linkage and had the power steering valve rebuilt. The steering piston was beyond repair, so I'm thinking I'll go with a rack install. Lot's of info here on the HAMB and the Ford sites. Like I said, kinda cheap here, so fabbing up something is a definite. I picked up a beat up '94 Stang GT. The 5.0L and T-5 will go into the merc eventually. Got to get rid of the EFI and go better looking carb. Think I'll try to make the front disc brakes work. Planning to drop it as far as i can with out bags. Maybe someday, but not in the budget for now. And then there is the age old debate....to chop or not to chop...hmmm
Chopping is a big step! I Chopped my 56 Studebaker Power Hawk 3/4" just because I could. Turning it into a 53. Brian
knocked the drums off the front hubs. took the grinder to the outside diameter of the hub so it would fit inside the hat of the Stang disc. now i just have to fab a bracket to mount the Stang caliper to the merc spindle. Cheap disc brake conversion. hopefully.
