I thought was about time I posted a few pics of my A. Its getting chopped 4" today. The channel worked out real well too. I kinda did the frame & channel Bobbleed style.Dont pay any attention to the sbc motor mounts, its getting a 50 merc flatty w/3 94s & offy heads.Motor goes in tomorrow & I'll post more pics. DAVE
are you going to run a hood w/ sides? its just that the top of Z down angle in front of the firewall looks a little funny. maybe level off the top to the firewall?
Yea, the front Z is gonna be done similar to what you are thinking. And 36couper, I'm not tall at all, in fact everyone says I'm kinda round. DAVE
Well guys, it took an 18 pack but I got it lowered last night. Now I have to get everything leveled up & welded back together Sat.I also scored a complete running 409 chev engine yesterday (409 w/ 700r4? Hmmmmmm, decisions decisions) DAVE
Looking good Shifts. Is the back end a bit low? It looks like the car is sitting level, which to me always makes it visually look lower in back. But I like the back end up a bit usually. Forget the flathead. GO 409!
Came out pretty straight for an 18 pack...! It's looking good Dave!!! Let me know when you come back to Milwacky...! Later Mark
Django, the wheels were just propped against car for the pic. I'm waiting on rear wheel adapters, so it really will sit about 3" taller in the rear when its done. It has a camaro 10 bolt rear & I wanna run my 35 ford spokes. Still kicking the idea of the 409 around, but its still a friggen chevy.DAVE
Dave..., don't you still have that 460 BBF with all the goodies...??? Run that and git rid ov dat ode 409 Chebbie to me!! Mark
Yea Mark, still got that 460 & I think I'm gonna die w/ it tho. I think it would look great in your A LOL. DAVE
I wish I had your garage to work in! Maybe I'd actually get something done. Car's looking good. I don't care for 4-bar front ends, but your work certainly looks top-notch.
Well if anyone can build a trans to handle the 409 it'd be you. Yes, shameless brown nosing / spamming, due to the fact he answered a bunch of question.
Lookin' good shifts, but if I might put in my 2 cents. It's not too late to ditch the 4 bar in favor of split bones or radius rods. I see you're running a Vega box with cross steer, that shit works great with 'bones or rods. I think if you're gonna run a traditional engine and a real steel body why use a visibly modern front end set up? I like the stance of the car a lot and that body looks super clean.
Dave, ol buddy? I have the 700R4 and the platform for the 409. Trade you a pretty 355 for it, even deliver it for you. What a deal. huh?
Lookin' Good Dave! Did you end up buying that top secret mopar powered A too? Getting in and out of that oughtta be fun for a "round" individual! that chop looks really close to the one on my A.
How screwed is he gonna be that he didn't brace/square the body up before he cut it? I've got pieces of an unchopped 30-31 coupe body that was channeled in the past (no floor now just angle iron body mounts about 6 in up). When I start to put it together, what is the best way to square it up? It is gonna get un-channeled and then chopped.
[ QUOTE ] (409 w/ 700r4? Hmmmmmm, decisions decisions) [/ QUOTE ] you could do the 700r4,but i saw a slant case hydro with a chevy bellhousing on ebay for $100.00-george
Thanks for the input guys. Nads, I'm thinking the same thing on the front end esp if I decide to run the flatty. Flipper, the body was braced & every thig worked out real well after I got done trimming. Plowboy, I didnt even know you had an A. I really like yours too. Good thing its a coupe after seeing that sky in the pic tho. Last of all, JimC I keep that frige behind locked doors now but I still have a few Buds waiting for you. I'll post more pics next week after I install engine.DAVE
Ok guys, its been a week now & I have decided to run the flatty. I took it out of storage today to clean it up some & put it in over the weekend. I just couldnt put the 409 in this one. More pics after its in. BTW, has anyone run the generator below the engine out of sight? DAVE
Hi Dave What does the coupe look like today...? Top welded? Motor in? Are you driving it? Looking good and where's the 409 going??? Mark
Mark, the top is welded on, but the motor goes in this weekend. I just had some guy stop by & ask what I filled the roof with & I told him I used a roof section out of an old Tucker my dad had laying around for years LOL. He left. DAVE
