Thinking about making my 54 250 a daily driver. Has original 239 y block and original rear. I am thinking about a new motor / tranny / and rear. Looking for some suggestion and price point direction. Any yo yo can go down the street a buy a new car, I want to sell mine and make my 54 reliable and be able to exceed 45mph. Thank you in advance!

well any sbc with a od will be ok. if you want to stay ford 5.0 with od would be ok that's a personal choice. in my case im running a 350 chevy with 700r4 trans and a 3.54 gear ratio. this is in a 41 olds weighs about 3400 lbs real quick stop light to stop light but on the highway I get 22 mpg. you could go 3.23 rear gear and probably pick up a mile or two per gallon. its your car do it your way.
