As I have said in a previous thread I have a 1962 390 Cadillac stashed in the garage for a hopefully not too distant future build. Right now I’m just in the ideas phase. I really think I would like to run a Weiand WCA 408 manifold or an Edelbrock CD-694, or maybe one of Gear Drives new 4x2 intakes, mostly because these are the three I think look the coolest. I’m guessing the Weiand would be the best performer, by what some have said in previous threads. Does anyone have experience with any of the three manifolds I listed?
Don't have any idea which would work best, but the Gear Drive would look the best! You should ask these guys for help, they probably can help: http://www.modifiedcadillac.org/forum/
Take your pick, or buy them all. The performance of any will depend far more upon your ability to tune and maintain your setup than which flavored of eye candy you pick. The Weiand WCA 408 should be the best IF you select the right combination of carbs, cam and ignition to fully utilize its abilities. Screw up any aspect of the combination and you can easily end up with less drivability and power. than was originally provided by the factory 4 barrel and iron intake.
I run the Edelbrock with 4 strombergs. It's smooth and works great. The gear-drive unit is I think similar or close to the same as the cragar unit, in which case I expect it to perform pretty damn good. Maybe Matt can chime in. In any case if you want to keep the $$ reasonable then Gear drive is the best bet. The vintage ones are reeling in some bucks these days.
My 40 has a 331 Caddy with a Horne 4x2 which is the same as the gear drive unit. My car runs as smooth as a gravy sandwich and has excellent throttle response .......
