LOL, Yeah I know, they suck. They were what the kit came with and I had nothing else around. I swear I will never repeat that mistake again!
To get the weathered magnesium/aluminum look, I painted the parts with testors gloss gray, then when it dried I dabbed white weathering powder(which is no more than ground up white chalk) and black powder(ground up charcoal).. After that I sprayed it with Testors Dull Coat.
