Hey guys, I finally got my rear glass cut for the back of the car after the chop. Its a 1930 Tudor Sedan. I picked up a new gasket for the window. I know the garnish moulding holds the glass in, but, do any of you guys use any windshield urethane or anything like that to seal it when you install it? Or did you just use the gasket? Thanks for the input guys.
Shouldn't need any. When you butt the cut ends together do it at the top of the glass. Some super glue will work. If you want to use some stickum I'd use a small line of 3m black sealer on the edge of the glass. Fold the rubber around and super glue then install. Don't stretch the rubber as it will shrink anyway a little.
No sealer on mine. I did have to use a little soapy water to ease it into place, as it was quite tight in the hole. But that's how we like it - right?
When you made your pattern, how much larger than the opening was it? I'm guessing 1/4" but not sure. I still have to do my back glass and both quarter windows. Thanks
Thanks for the replies guys. When I pulled the rear window out, it looked as though someone had used a sealer, or the gasket was just so petrified it stuck to the body like glue. The window fits nice and snug around the outside of it, what I was concerned about was how tight the garnish moulding is going to hold it all together and would it be enough to seal the gasket up against the body enough to keep any water out. Sounds like it will.
