Model A grill shells, what are they worth?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Farmer, Sep 10, 2003.

  1. I am looking to sell a couple, and wonder what to ask for them. Anybody know what they go for? It's just the grill shell, no insert. One's stainless and the other's painted metal. Both have original Ford logos, one is a truck, tall one, one is a shorty. They are 29-30 or 31 I believe. They have a peak in the middle, not straight, kinda like a duece
    shell. Any info appreciated, thanks!

I sold one for twenty five or thirty bucks awhile back to a fellow HAMBer...just what I paid for it at a swap meet myself. You can get used ones for anywhere from about $20 to $75, depending on condition...more for mint or exceptional ones.

  3. I bought a fair one for 28-29, painted, for $15 3 years ago at the local swap meet. They usually go for 20-30 bucks around here.

  4. cool, thanks for the info guys.

There are several types of A grill shells out there.

    28-29 shells shorter than 30-31

    29 truck--painted steel
29 car--nickle plated steel (very common)
28 truck-- painted steel (has raised portion around crank hole)
28 car-- nickle plated (has raised portion around crank hole

    30-31 shell taller than 28-29

30-31AA truck-painted steel straight across below bottom of upper panel emblem, also about 1/2" thicker for truck radiator
30-31 pickup- painted steel- bottom of upper panel below emblem drops to a point (widows peak)
30 car-stainless one piece (very common)
31 car--2 piece shell-- stainless with steel insert with widow's peak that contains emblem

That constitutes about 9 different shells with a range of values from 0 to $650 for a show quality stainless 31 shell for a car

Bought a super nice 31 car shell at swap for 35 last week --was offered 200 for it

Have a 30 pass on the wall- show quality restored worth about 450

Do some research before you just let them go.

Lessee, as I recall, I sent you $25, and you shipped it to me for $27, so that particular grill shell went for -$2.

The local dude with all the old hot rod junk gave me 3 of em for FREE, one is near mint, one is bent a little, and one is cut at the bottom. I woulda paid about $20-30 each, but I lucked out.

  10. cool, i didn't figure they were worth much anyhow. I'll just keep them as I got them for 5 bucks each. But I also bought a 38-39 Ford truck "beehive" grill for 5 bucks. what's it worth?

I got a rare and original FatAssBuick artistic rendering...a stunning and collectible keepsake envelope to frame and cherish for years to come...all he got was an old grille shell and a huge box!

(He also sent pictures of himself sitting naked in his Trans Am donor car...but I sold those to an underground porn dealer for the two dollars I lost on the deal!)

Ha Ha Ha! It was worth it, I tell ya!
