Hey folks, Well I was bit by the I shouldn’t have sold that what I thought was a spare but now I need it syndrome. Picked up a rebuilt banger recently and I have the early front cross member in my A chassis where the motor bolts directly to it. Started cleaning up the early front timing cover and notice the one of the main bolt holes was cracked and egged out, pics attached. Question is should I just look for another one, pack it with JBWeld drill and tap, have it welded or brazed up? Thanks in advance Tom , Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Just scored one off of EBay for a great price from a guy I have bought parts from in the past. If the current one is repairable I’ll hang on to it otherwise off to the scrap pile it goes Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I would get it repaired by someone who knows how to weld cast Welded from the outside hole welded up then redrilled and tapped. JB weld works good in holes that don’t hold stresses and tension ( oil pan bolts, dash and trim holes etc) I find putting jb weld is a stressed environment just causes it to fail. The place I use would fix that correctly for well under $200 bucks. Not sure what a good used one is worth mind you.
