I need to test my alternator to see if it is putting out voltage to my battery for when I was leaving a car show today, my batery was dead. Got a jump and made it home with no issues. When I was checking the belt tension, I had 1 inch of play and could move the alternator pulley by hand. Since I am new to Model As, is this too loose? Like I mentioned, I will check voltage output first. Appreciate any tips.

If you can turn the pulley it’s too loose...maybe a 1/2 of deflection...

Also if it was run too loose the belt may be glazed from slipping and need replacement.

  5. A general guideline is a 0.5 inch of deflection on the longest span of the belt, with moderate force. As said above it may be glazed now
