what gauge metal is best for metal shaping?
I just got some 18G but it seems to thick would it be ok to go to 20G?
I need to make some patch panels for my 27 roadster build

I prefer 18ga, but it is thick. 19ga works very good. 20ga may be a bit thin.

If you're not putting a lot of shape in the patch panels go with 18 ga. If you are going to have a lot of shape, you might find 20 ga to be better. Once the metal starts work-hardening it gets more difficult to work with. 19 ga, if you can get ahold of it would be ideal, IMO.

19g is usually what stock panels are.

so like scooter said either way is fine.

OK the 18 G I will use for the simple stuff. I want to attempt new bun panels skins so I will get some 20g for that!

  6. 19g if you can find it is often Draw Quality as well which makes it much easier to work with but very difficult to find.
