I could use some help with a car related gift I received. Someone close who shares my appreciation for human determined metals with a story and such, gave me a car mirror after seeing my Comet in progress and the Mercury style signatures . The box has name and address of close relative from original purchase. 'Having fun trying to find it's genre' but only came up with a few hints. Do Merc-Ford numbers use same alpha decade's - meaning does BAE part number mean 1950's?. Presume mid to late 50's by style and Mercury branded part - not aftermarket: Speculation welcome 8) : (thumbs) Enjoy... Powerband
It's a 57-59 Mercury mirror, Turnpike Cruisers used them, they were also used occasionally on Edsels, since these mirrors were in the Ford Accessories catalog and many Edsels had no exterior mirrors from the factory. My current '59 Edsel has a pair of these on the front fenders, the last Edsel I parted out had just one on the driver's door. Cool looking mirror, if your Comet is a 60 or 61 you could probably run this and get away with it since it was in the Accessories catalog, assuming you're restoring the car stock. Being NOS this is a pretty valuable mirror, I paid pretty decent money for my used ones.
That is 57 mercury specific.. The turnppike cruiser I am hopefully getting has the exact mirrors.. I like em'.. Buck Rodgers looking..
