Technical Merc Cruiser skirts on a 57 Fairlane

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by LowKat, Jun 22, 2017.

  1. Anybody here ever put 1957 Mercury cruiser skirts on a 1957 Ford Fairlane?
How well did they fit and did you need to modify?
Here's the skirts I'm looking to install.

Here's a page from an old Foxcraft catalog that seems to answer the fit question. My guess is that they would fit on the Fairlane and Fairlane 500 but might've been too long for the short-wheelbase wagons, Ranchero, Custom and Custom 300 series cars.

  4. froghawk thanks for the picture

The skirts I'll be installing are actual Mercury Turnpike Cruiser.

Here's the Fairlane they'll be going on.

Have a friend with a set on a '57 and they look nice, in the old days when the style of fender skirts and tail draggers was popular you saw a lot of them.

Very popular in the 50-60's to do this. I saw it a lot growing up in Inglewood, Ca. Sorry no photos but it was done..
So how many points u gonna loose during the next show with skirts? You need some AeroStar front springs and some Daisy's on it too.

  9. I work for a collector that doesn't really care about points once the car wins several awards. I did talk him out of putting them on this E-code Fairlane. He has 2 other 57 Fairlane convertibles and they'll be going on one of them "someday".

I jump around on his projects like a flea as he's always changing his mind on what to work on.

Just bought a set of org 57 turnpike cruiser skirts for my 57 ranchero. I was a little concerned that they may be to narrow there 12 × 60. I have not yet tried to install them. But from what i see here, they should fit, I hope they weren't cheap.

  20. My boss wanted them on his E-code Fairlane and I talked him out of that. He has two other Fairlane converts. I tried them on both cars including the one pictured. Either one would require modifying the skirts to make them fit how I would like. Moved on to other projects. Maybe someday, I'll get them on.

Thanks very good picture's. From what i can tell, the skirts don't go over the body line, or at least at the front, do they just ride atop of the body line? Any modifications to the latching system. It seems to me they need a bit of the curve taken out.

THEY RIDE THE BODY LINE, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO DO SOME WORK TO MAKE THEM FIT THE BODY LINE, THE LATCHING WILL BE UP TO YOU TO MAKE IT WORK
