took some junk hood sides and cut louver's out of them, made a sub-frame out og 16 gauge strap ,welded in 27 0r so blades after having to weld 16 together then I used (new to me ) automotive panel adhesive to glue subpanel behind new hood sides.

then made stainless...........will talk about that another day .

Kirk whined a lil the other day about not selling many records, and how he has to watch his spending .

I told him I was sorry that he didnt write his "stairway to heaven yet" but I was going to make him imortal with his 36 and it is my "freebird"

also said ..........Im as good as you .....in our fields of work, but I have to live in my shop , sorry you have to wait to buy the new mercedes , I will finish your car soon, love cole

Maybe if Kirk released a cover version of Stairway to Heaven, that would raise enough money for you to tool up to produce fiberglass copies of the hood sides; which in turn could cover the cost of Kirk touring to promote the release of his Freebird cover, which could pay for the molds you'd need to produce fiberglass copies of his '36, which could generate enough for him to do some videos for MTV.

    Once again, damn nice job!

I really like the 'swept' effect you gave the fins.
It adds a nice, clean touch to the front of the car without taking too much away from the overall look.

I'm sure you really wanted my oppinion [IMG] [IMG]

    Thanks for posting the pics.

    Wow, amazing metal work!
Now I'm just fuckin' around with it a bit...
I did an idea on the grill to line it up visually with the new louvers.
I lowered the top to the same height as the louvers and reshaped the side higher and further back on the sides. Sorta like a pre 38 deluxe look.
Way easier in photoshop than in real life, I know though...
It'd take an all new or much modified grill to pull it off.

Kirk just called. He's stoked. The plan is for him to use Barris, the '36 and one of your bikes in a ZZ Top-inspired MTV video called Sharp Dressed Pan. If it's a big as we think it will be, he says he'll be able to have his next car built by Dick Dean.

doesn't it qualify for a tax write-off if he uses it in a music video?

Cole, I'm going to go out on a limb here and criticize the new side panels. I know they required a lot of effort, but I think they conflict with all of the other lines of the car.

My opinion may not matter at all, but I once pointed out something I liked on someone's bike and you replied saying that you always choose on the side of tasteful practicality. I'm grossly paraphrasing -- I don't remember the words you used, but the point was clear. Things do look better when they flow and work in harmony and those louvers look out of line when compared to everything around them. They look like they are showing off rather than gracefully pulling the eye along that panel.

I'm sure a few people will pipe up and say "how dare you!" or "you're so wrong!" but I figured I can be the lone person willing to say that those panels don't stand up to you usual spot-on sense of design.

I Have mixed feelings of the panels... Half the time when I see the pics I think "Yeah thats rad"...And the other half they just seem to look a little awkward to me. Like the eye gets caught up and stuck on them. I think that the bigger blades are angled too much... If they were at a little less of an angle it would flow better. I'll bet its one of those things where in person its the coolest thing ever, especially from different angles... Im 50/50 on em, but who the fuck am I? -J.

    Cole is my hero too......

Jesus, that car is fucking unbelievable.
It really is, everytime I see a picture of it I get chills.

    I don't like the louvers though, I want too, but I don't.

They look too square. Ford type flaired louvers would look better too me......

Maybe some sort of simple spear type moldings that run over the top of those louvers horizontally would be cool. They would soften them and add to the deco lines.

Maybe I'm just a dirtbag from WI.

    My critique....
    I love the concept...
    but looks unfinished and unrefined...
don't take a step backward with that car....
stand back, watch how the lines move across the car....
design it like it has always been there....
    Then build it...

well they are ford louvers , I could have done a few diffirent things for the hood sides, but Im pleased with them, they get stainless on top and bottom.

one of my favorite cars ever is a 1931 lancia Astura Cabriolet and there close

I think you will like the hood just fine. and i swear it flows, it gives it balence and is elegant.

Its my favorite thing about the car.

I dont mind the dislikes at all, even though I really think there 100% right.lol they have been drawn on hood sides for a long time . stainless makes it insane

My opinion doesnt count for squeak, but..

I think those louvers are too busy... too visually disruptive to the rest of the elegantly subtle and clean car...

However, I SO MUCH wish that napster logo would go on the door, as a temporary vinyl peel-off when he picks up the car!

  29. Hell, I didn't like it at first, then I did.....now I can't make up my mind! Maybe it's the sweep.....maybe not.

I wanna see it with a border trim of some sort. Is that what the stainless will do? Maybe radiused corners?

Awesome work! I really love that car.

Oh yea and tell Kirk they'd sell more records if they added a guitar solo or two like on the older albums.
