Technical Mac Tools ET985 Dwell meter

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 46international, Aug 10, 2025 at 7:10 AM.

  1. Does anyone have a user manual for a Mac Tools ET985 dwell meter/tach/engine analyzer ? I picked up one at a swap meet and it does not have the manual.

  2. How about some pictures of the meter assembly showing all the cables and electrical connections? Maybe some detail shots of the faces of the gauges and scope? We all LOVE pictures!

Have you thought about getting in touch with Mac Tools to see if they can help.

  6. Thanks all for the ideas, I have searched the internet and the best I have found is other guys looking of the same info. Mac Tools was no help either.
Anyway, I did hook it up to a car and it works. The hook is easy an inductive hook up for #1 plug wire, RED lead to battery + BLACK lead to battery - that only left the green one that would have to go to the points or neg side of the coil. This brings me to the only real question, will this work on HEI systems? Not that I have anything with HEI but I know people that do... This thing was made in 1985 so I would think it should work with HEI.
But this thing works pretty good, not only will it show engine speed and dwell, you can kill any one cylinder at a time to check for a dead cylinder, without getting shocked.
Just wanted to say thanks to all that responded
