This was refreshing to see. A very nice couple who enjoy the cars and each other. The black one is his and the white Impala is hers. It was a factory Chevrolet accessory steering wheel in the early 1950's.

When I left SoCal to come to Arizona I was surprised by the number and quality of the low riders here, as you can plainly see.

    Hello,

A friend in the Westside of Long Beach told me of this old habit of his. He learned it from another old guy that had a lowered car. Whenever the lowered car was left alone in a parking situation, house, parking lot, on the street anywhere, a park or especially, overnight outside or car port, the old trick of theft was averted by lowering the car/cruiser to the absolute lowest point.

That meant that the bumper, muffler, running boards or frame was touching the ground surface. So, what does it do? The absolutely lowered cruiser is now locked in place and will withstand any efforts to steal the cool car. A little security goes a long way to enjoyment… YRMV

Even if it is a trip inside of a business for some shopping or a nice dinner, absolute lowering was a must before the loud alarms and ignition cut offs were a common place.

  21. Shots from the recent Atlanta Lowrider Magazine Super Show. First time such a show here, hard to believe. I rarely get to see these cars on the street so this was a treat. Lots of families there, several performers on stage, a big production that was well attended. Sponsored by a local club Crazy Vatos.

I don’t know if this has been posted but PBS Seattle, KCTS, showed the “Zoot Suit Riots” on American Experience. I saw it before but watched again. Repeats Thursday at 1:00 PM Pacific time.

  24. I saw it too. Really good documentary that gives some good insight on the period (1942/43). catch it if you can.
