I have a m-21 muncie to install in my '63 Lark, it came to me in pieces I've got the gasket kit but no seals. As I'm looking for seals I see no one offering the front bearing retainer seal. Am I wrong that a seal goes there? Thanks! Normal Norman

There is no seal that goes into the bearing retainer on a Muncie. There is, however, a gasket from retainer to main case.

Autogear in NY do a special retainer that has a seal in it
You need to grind the input on the thread in front of retainer nut [for the seal ] or buy their input.
If you use a seal you need to breathe the gearbox elsewhere [preferable is the tail housing]

We use them in Vintage Road Racing where the braking forces are greater than 1G to prevent oil going down the retainer.

If some previous "butcher" has used a cold-chisel on the retainer nut you need to replace it.
The retainer nut is also an "Oil Slinger" and needs tight [ish] clearances
