Hi Brian, I don't have a finned cover for a 12 bolt but I do have an old Geis girdle. Might be a shade new for the era you're going for? I assume around 1975 manufacture as it has Pat Pending on the cover and it appears the patent was issued January 1976. No good for my '55 as it hits the gas tank. Shipping from Oz may be a bit hefty? Let me know if you're interested and we can talk.
    Cheers, Arnold.

@73RR has a couple of 950 three barrel's on his website clearance page. Don't know how complete they are but look pretty clean.

Maybe I missed it Brian but a three spoke wood steering wheel seems to be missing from your list.

  6. I'm re using the original two spoke wheel that came with the car. Its the large diameter wheel for manual steering. It makes it easier for my wife to turn. I remember those three spoke wooden wheels. I had one in my 64 sport fury. A classic part from the era.

No problem Brian. It's had a pretty decent polishing job at some stage, just a bit grotty from sitting on the shelf. A good excuse for you to get the Flitz out again. Hasn't suffered any diff explosions by the looks. The driver side support screw will only turn a small amount either way before it jams up, I'm guessing the thread is galled in the housing. Hence it may not be able to be used as designed but it still looks cool! I'll pm you re $ and shipping.
    Cheers,
    Arnold.

  9. I appreciate the effort to get some pics. I don't know about this part. I will do some research on it then let you know. I really want to keep the car pre 70 if possible. Thanks.

I think I just learned something I didn’t know! AutoMeter made stuff for Stewart Warner? What was the relationship between both companies? Very cool info.

  12. 20210211_223326.jpg 20210211_223339.jpg So my neighbor called and said he found something in the pile I might be interested in. He found a 1969 one year only 61 amp alternator for a 435 hp vette. The 61 amp was used with the optional transistor high performance ignition or ac. Its now being completely rebuilt. Its a cool rare find. Its only getting better.

  13. 20210304_173725.jpg 20210304_173828.jpg Dons alternator and starter in Kenosha WI rebuilt my alternator. The rear case was cracked. Knowing how I wanted this correct they found a correct Delco rear case. The correct part numbered deep groove pulley is now on it. It looks brand new. Far from the crusty unit I bought. Its ready for action. Its all about the details.

Many years ago I found the alternator for my 327/350 hp engine for my 67 Nova at the Monroe Swap Meet east of Seattle Washington, it was in a large spread of Corvette parts on the ground and was marked $10, had been cleaned up but the guy said he knew nothing about it, said it came in a package deal, figured what's to lose so I grabbed it.
Some time after that I checked the case numbers and it was for a 67 427/390 hp Corvette.
Was able to still get a new deep groove alternator pulley from the dealer at that time too.

  15. Hamb member xxl had posted a ad for a new in the box set of bbc head studs for 115.00 shipped. Thats well over half off. They will come in handy. I know the way this engine will be used so it will provide some needed clamping power. Save where you can. Keep a eye on the hamb classifieds. I have found alot of good stuff over the years. 20210304_183632.jpg

interesting about the head studs...I'm still using bolts in mine, and the gaskets last for a few years without too much trouble.

the alternator is neat, 69 Vettes got the internal regulator model, other models of Chevys had to wait till 72.

The date codes on Delco stuff, 8M13 means 19x8, M is the last month, 13th day

  18. Jim they were not originally part of the plan. They were so cheap I figured why not its a good upgrade. This is what happens when you work alot of ot. The engine was assembled when I looked at it. All the original hardware was there. I don't know if its worth anything but I don't care. I'm keeping everything. I might change my mind and use the original bolts. I'm not sure yet how it will all play out.

  19. Just an update to my earlier post. There's a BBC finned aluminum marine pan on ebay right now. Take a look.

No provision for a stock dipstick but there's left and right drain holes so a tube could be fabled up.

  22. I have two of those pans out in the garage, didn't realize they were fetching that kind of moola either.

  23. I found a couple old photos, you can see that the dipstick tube came out the bottom hole and was just a bunch of black pipe fittings it seems, then up and had that dipstick in it. 25. Probably there, just under the paint, these came in an auction lot that I had bought but for sure marine stuff. I live right next to Lake Erie and Lake Ontario so no salt water stuff, if there's a difference.

In ‘93 my DD was an ‘82 GMC 2WD Jimmy, like a 2door, full size Blazer. The 305 was tired, a friend gave me a 400 short block so I rebuilt it, had some 400 heads freshened up and transferred everything else from the 305 to the 400, except for a new water pump and external balanced flex plate.
Fired it up and it made a ticking sound, not bad but noticeable. I let it run, broke the cam and lifters in and shut it down.
I got under it and listened and decided to drop the pan, it was rod nuts hitting the edge of the oil pan. The 305 pan had no relief in it to clear the rotating assembly of the 400, I found a 400 pan at the wrecking yard and sure enough it looked like the pan pictured above.
Look close, the side of the pan is pushed out where it meets the pan rail to provide extra clearance for long strokes.

Yeh, I'm hip to all that as I have a Dan Olson pan on my 427 Rodeck small block.

  28. Learned something new today, again! Thanks, never knew the 400 pan was slightly different. Will have to keep the one I have together, or at least keep track of the parts.

Oh, I see. But to me reinforcements are not clearance.

  30. I've got a gen VI 454 stroked to a 489 and the stock pan fit it

    20210313_010949.jpg

Then I had a 383 small block that didn't have enough clearance in the clearanced pan
