    Hello again from the UK...

I have a 1952 Lincoln 317 Y Block (EAD engine) The valve stem seals I have taken out seem to be in two parts, one really small one that fits below the retainer (collet) with a larger seal also in the stem. They are obviously old and hard and broken.

The Best Gasket set I have has these larger plastic/rubber ‘umbrella’ seals but not the smaller piece. Do these replace the two pieces originally fitted?

    Any help appreciated.

Try contacting John Mummert, he has a lot of experience with the Y block family. www.ford-y-block.com

Ted Eaton of Eaton Balancing in Leona Texas will also know this answer.
If the valve has 2 registers on it, the top would be for a keeper and the second for a “square” o-ring and the umbrella over the guide in my experiences with other engines not the 317..

That’s great help. I’ll try them both, thank you.
