  4. Bob, thank you for sharing that pic- I have a later book version that has all kind of neat things for kids to build, including a form for making snow forts and a prop-driven airsled!

We built stuff in the '50's too. I got Popular Mechanics every year for Christmas. Dad brother and I built a hydroplane from Pop Mechanics article.

    Hello, Bob,
You are quite right for both names!

Sir John Carden designed his Carden Monocar in 1914, but later sold industrial rights to its production to company AV in 1916, who produced their AV Monocar until 1924...

Later Sir Carden designed quite new cyclecar in 1919 which he sold the same year to Tamplin and then a further model which he sold to Arnott and Harrison in 1922 who made it under the New Carden until 1925.

A little mess with changing of models and companies, but all masterships of Sir Carden.
He was later famous for the design of light tanks!

    Ciao,

    history of GN.2.jpg
    Hello there,
It seems that the first variant of GN had V-twin engine positioned with crankshaft crosswise, cylinder one after another. A. F. Nash and H. R. Godfray were not satisfied especially with cooling, but in general too, with a motorcycle engine used. Therefore, they made their own engine and turned it into a position that was the most known: crankshaft in the longitudinal position, with cylinders as Mickey Mouse ears...

Maybe some variants had single-speed belt transmission and some had double-speed chain transmission?

    Ciao

    Hello, RHD!
What to choose if somebody offers such great opportunity to me?
So maynmagnificent original classic cars on three or four wheels - but being modest I would be practical and take Citroen 2cv based three-wheeler, or if possible - something from upper scale: New Morgan threewheler!
There is one here in Bern - looks and drives wonderful!

DSCF8088.JPG On his 6th Birthday my grandson stood on top of a freshly split pile of firewood, and chucked out every piece he was standing on until he reached the ground. A firewood igloo, or machinegun nest. Amazed, scared, and proud grandfather. Bob

Tonight he asked me to take him to the store to redeem cans, so he can buy flowers for his mom's Mothers Day gift, he's a great kid, you should see him drive his gas powered go cart. :) Bob

... it looks that he should be, if isn't already - true CYCLECARTISTE!
Now, it is quite rare that kids know and want to play with real things instead to live in the virtual world of electronic games and communications! He shows great imagination and dedication!

Until real cyclecar, original or replica, maybe something like at shown photos!

    Fun, elegant and safe?
Shown are gravity-racers (soap-box cars), but could be simply motorized with a gasoline engine or an electric motor?

    Regards,

    Hello, Dodge!
Now, that is really The Cyclecar! (a combination of a car and a motorcycle)
Probably one-off, amaterur affair or start of business?

It looks to me that there is not much of rear suspension at all?
At least for the right wheel - they didn't make false "hard-tails" in that period?

Not so cool as a solo motorcycle, not so comfortable as an automobile - but as a combination quite cute and practical...

    UOTE="fredvv44, post: 12566193, member: 238593"]love the Bentley Blue Train!![/QUOTE]
    =========================================
    Hello, Fred!
For sure that Bentley in the background is one of the most beautiful big coupés! I like coupé variants both on small or big automobiles in spite that a ride in fully opened carrosserie should give more pleasure...

Only - the problem with that "Bentley Blue Train" exhibited and sold from time to time - is that it is totally false, from the tyres up to the top!
Now, that is mostly called re-creation for upper-crust automobiles, or replica for low-level affairs, often based on VW-beetle chassis and mechanics... This one (or a few of them) is built on chassis and mechanics of post-war Bentley limousine (besides other "modernisations" it has the 8-cylinder engine, independent front suspension)! Some are blue - some are BRG, some with beige interior - some with blue!
Even worse, as a replica it is the wrong replica of Bentley Blue Train, that was a four-door saloon, quite elegant and nice otherwise. So, original Blue Train was looking quite different and not so glorious, but it was very fast and faster than famous train express known as Blue Train, running during the night from Cannes to Calais, over Paris... The driver was famous Rolf Barnatto.

    ... and, finally:

    https://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/bentley/blue+train+special/255654

So, why that false legend is forced for so long time (just a few years after the original race up to date), even by Bentley Register, well-established dealers and auctioneers, show-runners, owners of collections - for this and a lot of other examples of famous and glorious automobiles? For sure, a legend is more noble, glorious and attractive than true happening - but at the end because of money for all of them and vanity of buyers!

    Ciao,
    Zoran
P.S.: Barnatto was not the first, but the 3rd:
    1. In January 1930, the Rover Light Six started a race with The Blue Train on the train's 750-mile (1,210 km) run between Calais and Cannes - and managed to beat the train by a 20-minute lead!
    2. In early March of 1930, E.J.P. Eugster raced an Alvis Silver Eagle against the Blue Train and beat it to Calais by three hours!

The difference is that Wolf Barnato bet that he could be at his club in London before the Blue Train made Calais. He made it by four minutes. It's a pity that no one tried the Blue Train run in a cyclecar. I'd put money on 'Owlet', the GN coupe.
Back to our regularly scheduled programming. Please?
