Let's talk about the forbidden fruits...SBC

  1. Way of the goldchainer?

It's not a sum of the parts that make up a goldchainer... it's the "I had it done, so it's better than yours" attitude... besides that... for a shop truck you can't beat a 350... decent mileage, power and a price that you can't beat! In fact, you have to have deeper pockets to run a 283 or 327... the engine kits cost more (ok, not THAT much more) [IMG]

OK, they are not 400 dollars a set anymore.
12558060 SB Chevy L31 Vortec Cylinder Heads, Assembled $244.75

That is off of the Scoggins Dickey website.

They are a center bolt V/C, and your headers will work fine.
I just got a book from my Dad that covers a budget motor dyno.
It was put on by the guys at Chevy High Performance.
It is a great book, one of the best I have seen on taking a budget motor and trying parts out on it to see what actually works.

They took a 350 truck motor (crate) that was rated at 190 hp and started adding all kinds of bolt on stuff etc.
They did an overall rating after they were done and out of all the heads, aluminum included and they chose the top ones. The Vortecs were rated #4.

I left the book in my toolbox at work but I will post the cover tomorrow for those interested. The ended up with something like 409HP out of that 190 hp crate motor. I am gonna use their R&D to my advantage. RAshy and I were hashing out all of the possible combinations the other night and it can make your head swim.

    Sorry for the fruity novel.

Oh and the stock valve springs are good to .450" lift. Not much but they have a more expensive set that has the Z-28 springs on em. That is also covered in the book.
