History Lets talk 50's period correct racing modifications

A friend of mine is turning his 56 Fairlane into a dirt track car and it got me wondering what were the go to modifications for cars destined for the track back in the day? Other than say a camshaft and a hot carburetor what would be done to cars hitting a track with turns. Drag race need not apply here.

 

Anything you could get away with !

 

Locked rear end, faster steering, weight jackers of some sort.
