I'm planning to build a surface frame table that will be used for jigging up and welding a production-quality run of fairly complicated tube chassis. I've searched and seen some nice frame tables and jigs, and this has convinced me that I need the flexibility of a surface table. I'd like to thread holes into a large (and unfortunately expensive) 1/2" or 5/8" plate based on where the numerous tubes will be, and locate tubes/pins of various lengths on the plate wherever needed. I'll buy a professional auto body shop measuring system to make sure everything is where I want it to be.

What I need is, to see what ideas everyone has for clamping systems that I can attach to the pins mentioned above. I don't want C-clamps since the chassis will be 1.5" round tube. Any ideas? TIA!
