    Hello,

In our old hot rod, cruising days, the 1958 Impala has been in front of plenty of things in So Cal. But, the times were not with a camera for hot rod posed photos. It would have been nice to have a posed photo in front of those places we saw in the 58 Impala or 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery, but at the time, it was a “teenage wasteland…” of places to go. Plus, on dates or surf explorations, one did not take photos of the car and place. There were too many places to go and things to do to stop for photos. Plus during those times, no one had a camera. Well, at least a good 35 mm camera we could afford.

But, in all terms of, “ in front of…” how about in front of a Paxton Supercharged 1957 Ford Sedan in a close race at Lion’s Dragstrip? We had a stock 280 hp 348 motor with 3 carbs. It was a three speed stick and 4:56 Positraction rear gears. But, so were many other 58 Impala sedans. The supercharged Ford sedan was one of a few racing in our category of A/Stock rules at the time.

While I did not have a driver’s license at the time, my brother did most of the driving for class wins and trophies. As the years rolled by, I finally got my chance and yes, I was able to beat the supercharged Paxton powered 1957 Ford Sedan in a couple of race days for trophies.

But, those drag racing trophies were not the largest trophies on our house bookcase. Our dad’s Biggest Rainbow Trout Trophy he won at Lake Crowley on opening day of 1960 or 61 made everything look small. Also, it was in front of the Lion’s Dragstrip trophies, but it was so large it covered them up.
