Buckshot40, that is one sweet license plate topper, very appropriate for a '40 coupe.

  6. The license plate topper came from the Maggie Valley, N.C. swap meet....bought it from Tiny Lund's widow. Here's something else on my '40 that I've had a blast with. The \'40 - 4.jpg

I've got a '40 DeLuxe coupe that I've always been planning to do as more of a street rod type build. Fuel injected small block/4L60E, digital guages, etc. But, every time I see this one, I re-think my plans. This is just plain COOL.

  10. This weekend, both of my '40's are spending their time parked in The Man Show Expo, an annual event that @Long Roof Larry hosts here in Springfield. I alluded to it in my last post.

Here's a couple of shots from the expo. The coupe is up with the "regular cars", and the truck is down in the Brown Derby booth as part of their Junior Johnson's Midnight Moon Moonshine display.

When I got back, someone working the event told me how the display looked really cool, and they had loadeed the back of the truck with a bunch of empty boxes. From the last picture, you can tell that those boxes certainly ain't empty! The truck is squatted about 2" in the back.

^^^^In that case, you should graciously offer to dispose of the "empty" boxes for them!!
I'm sure you have a few HAMB pals, including your newest pal, Al!, that would help you!

okay, question for hardcore '40 Ford guys, why does the hood script for a deluxe come in two "flavors"? One with a red edge to the chrome pieces and one with just a chrome edge? I never noticed this before but paint shop doing my coupe broke a pin off one "deluxe" and when I went to buy a replacement, Carpenter lists both with and without a red edge. My coupe it turns out has the red edged script. Just curious.

  13. My understanding is that they were stock with the red edge. I think that those darned hot rodders caused the demand for the chrome only versions.

The 40 Deluxe had the script with red edges as all the emblems on the Deluxe were trimmed in red. I have only seen the chrome edged trim on the 39 Deluxe,40 Standard, and 40 pickup.

I HAVE HAD 40 FORD HOODS THAT THE TRIM HAD NOT BEEN REMOVED SINCE THE FACTORY AND THEY DID NOT HAVE RED TRIM(DELUXE).

kind of goes without saying, but here goes anyway. the deluxe said "Ford Deluxe" in red, while the standard just had a chrome "Ford".

but suppliers like Dennis Carpenter offer the "deluxe" in both red edge and plain chrome which begged the question in the first place. So maybe bchrismer is on to something?

My '40 is painted in a color close to the original "Folkstone" (greey with a tinge of tan), has the red edged Deluxe emblem and I like it and have received favorable comments on this.
I think it depends a lot on the car's color. Sort of a "contrast but not clash" thing. IOW, red edges might clash with a shade of red different than the paint.
The chrome edges should be OK for any paint color.

  20. ..............I think what he's asking, Dave, is why are some red trimmed and some not and which is what the originals were if that makes sense.

  21. I still think it's all those darned hot rodding guys that caused the full chrome deluxe hood emblems to be an option.

FWIW Bob Drake also states red trimmed piece for the Deluxe only.

  23. ...................I think that's the likely scenario as it seems all of the original DeLuxes I've seen had the red trim. Maybe some reproduction pieces didn't go the extra step of adding the red.

  25. I did finally get to meet Junior Johnson and visited with him a few times throughout the afternoon. I also spent time visiting with his traveling entourage, some of who worked with him on his NASCAR crew. Very fun day.
