Getting ready to start my 265 build. All the info in this thread has been very helpful. I will be going to a hydraulic roller in my build and need all the help I can get on the oiling system mods.

Got one '56 double bump head rough ported yesterday. Well almost, got the intake and exhaust done, getting ready to start on the bowls after plunging the pockets for bigger valve.

    Yes. Mopac.
I bought a '58 jeep station wagon, with a 265 installed. Crude instillation. and it sits for months at a time, but show it a battery, and it runs like a watch. Never cared much (for 60 years now) for GM V8's but it would be nice to find a use for it.

If it would quit raining I would get back to porting the heads and start some of the block machine work on my 265 build.
I'm looking for a Barry Grant six shooter set up to put the fuel into my baby v8.

Don't bore .125.....060 and .030 are good choices. I ran three large 2gc's with a 30/30 cam and a Corvette distributor with a .030 overbore. Car was virtually undefeated in NHRA and AHRA competition. If I remember correctly car weighed 3600 + pounds. Since it was also street raced it was "street able" with Atlas Burcons and the weight out!

The block I have is .040 over now and I will probably take it to .060 over.
Machining the rear cam area for oiling is my only concern, but this thread has helped tremendously in that respect.

  10. We ran a .060 265 with Jahns pistons, Crane 308 cam , and 1 7/8 Hilborne injectors in our 55 Chev E/Gas car 8000 plus rpm.
Would change rod bearings ever so often, rings the start of new season, ran this engine for four years finally wore the cyl walls out, replaced with a .125 over 283 (301) and added some weight to still be legal. Still have the 265 sitting in the shop

Well, after taking a week off healing. Man, that hammer was suppose to hit the chisel, not my thumb! I got back to porting on the second head. Got two more intake ports to finish before plunging on the bowls. Plan on spending tomorrow working on the pockets this week as the weather down in Phoenix is predicted cool enough for this old guy to be working.

Both heads are done with the rough porting and are now on the mill for push rod guide plate and screw in rocker machining.
Will be flowing the heads soon to determine cam considerations.

I've learnt a lot from this thread,,,thanks so much ,,I've started tearing down my 55,,265 ,very sludgy in the valley,,,it has a little lip on the bore which I think will be ok removed ,,I will get it measured but as it won't be expected to do big miles I'm hoping to do a rering etc.i don't want to bore it,,

    I'm considering a .060 bore, 348 stroke with 5.7 rods. Making the 265 into a 319cid small block.

Heads back from machining and now it's on to the block. I am not sure on the stroke yet, but the block is going to the assembly stand for oiling mods. I have a second set of off set valve heads I'm porting now for my Brothers 55 wagon build.

Looks like block can be honed to fit a Gm part 305 piston. I'm trying to make this a GM parts build and so far it is working. Still not sure on the oiling modes though.

I am on hold right now. My sister passed suddenly and I will be in Springfield, MO for the celebration of life services. Leaving tomorrow. Man, she was the baby of the family and I sure will miss her laughter. Rest in Peace, Nancy.

She seemed to be healthy and happy, but she laid down before she went to church and never woke up. Thanks for you condolences.

Gathering parts to get back on the build. Picked up an old Offy intake and holley 750 carb for $50 at a garage sale. The carb doesn't even need to be gone through.

here's the wrong plug I just took out, also bearing in wrong for a 265....(maybe block is modified with a groove discussed above) but I'm going to have to take out bearing and check.

Engine is done and has been for some months now. Gathering more parts so the install will be with a muncie 4 speed all at the same time. I think my '55 Cheby will be happy.

If use a 350 crank you might want to machine the rod journals to take small journal rods. The 265 blocks don't have much room for extra stroke.

Is that a 400 dampener on this engine? What's going on here? I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
